Surface ~ When Your Ex Wants You Back ~ Salsoul ~ 1984

This was their second single – the follow up to “Falling In Love” – and was a UK number 52, and made 84 on the US R&B chart. It was produced & Arranged by David Conley & Tony Byrd, and mixed & Engineered by Julian Robertson.
Surface were a three piece formed in the mid-80’s by songwriter David Townsend (son of singer/songwriter Ed Townsend (Marvin Gaye “Let’s Get It On”)), multi-instrumentalist David “Pic” Conley and singer/songwriter/lead vocalist Bernard Jackson. Before that they were staff writers for EMI providing songs for Gwen Guthrie and Sister Sledge, they charted in 1987 with “Happy,” from their debut album “Surface”.

Misled is from their 1984 “Emergency” album released as a single in 1985
It was a number18 on the Billboard Hot 100, 7 on the US R&B and 41 on the Dance chart. In the UK it peaked at 50. It’s credited as a Robert Bell / J T Taylor and the group composition.

Con Funk Shun ~ Chase Me ~ Mercury ~ 1979

Taken from their 1979 “Candy” album, the single was a number 4 on the US R&B chart.
