Players Association, James Mason, and Herb Alpert, chosen by Steve

Players Association ~ The Get Down Mellow Mellow Sound ~ Vanguard ~ 1980

In many ways sounding something like ‘Turn The Music Up’ part deux, here’s a track much loved by many of their fans. It’s no secret that I just loved a lot of what this band of stellar New York jazz/ session musicians laid down.

James Mason ~ Sweet Power Your Embrace ~ Chiaroscuro Records ~ 1977

A track that powerd to prominence during the Rare Groove scene, James Mason would later be a member of Wuf Ticket, a band that had a few releases on Prelude, one of which, ‘The Key, was recently featured on the show.

Herb Alpert ~ Red Hot ~ A&M ~ 1983

Born in 1935 and co-founder, together with Jerry Moss, of A&M records, all I can say is that for a man almost into his fifties, he sure laid down some funky grooves in the early eighties, this being one of my faves. It just swings like crazy.
