Willie Bobo, Scott Grooves ft. Roy Ayers, and Negrocan, selected by Steve

Willie Bobo ~ Always There 1978 ~ Columbia US ~ 1978

Lifted from his Wayne Henderson produced album ‘Hell Of An Act To Follow’, the power and energy contained in this remake of the Ronnie Laws Jazz-Funk classic was too strong to stop it being anything other than instantly accepted and a massive dancefloor hit. Willie Bobo had been a pre-eminent percussionist in the 60s and was still very much in demand in the ‘70s. Sadly, he died of cancer, five years after making this.

Scott Grooves ft. Roy Ayers ~ Expansions~ SOMA ~ 1998

Yet another remake of a classic Jazz-Funk tune, this time by one of the UK’s Jazz –Funk fraternity’s favourites. Roy Ayers has been involved in the music business since the early ‘60s and shows no signs of letting up.

Negrocan ~ Cada Vez ~ Swing City UK/Rampage US ~ 1999

I was tempted to find another remake to follow the last two tracks, but declined in favour of following the latin vibe instead. Supposedly, THE summer dance record of 2000, it has sold over one million copies worldwide, which is pretty good going for a House track.

Steve really wanted this video posted, in his defence I should point out that it is the “official video” …
