David Benoit, Shakatak, and John Klemmer ~ Steve goes all Brazilian

19 07 2011

David Benoit ~ Li~fe Is Like A Samba ~ AVI ~ 1979

From Bakersfield, California, jazz pianist David Benoit found many fans with this opus, especially on the UK Jazz-Funk scene where it was one of the ‘biggies’ of the genre. I’ll play this for regular listener, Pete, our favourite printer from Perth.

Shakatak ~ Brazilian Dawn ~ Polydor ~ 1981

A single lifted from their LP ‘Drivin’ Hard’, their first album for Polydor, this goes out to Des, a (would have us believe) ladies man, Nerja aficionado (well he does go there on holiday) and our favourite west country listener. Enjoy!

John Klemmer ~ Brasilia ~ ABC Records US ~ 1979

The Chicago born jazz saxophonist, at one time proclaimed ‘the Sax God’, scored a big dancefloor hit with the UK jazz-funk fraternity with this 100 mph, samba driven, jazzy workout. He first recorded as a leader in 1967 and continued until 1998.

We also dedicated this segment of the show – and the next one – to our friend, and resident of Sao Paulo Funkstagazza. Gary had been off our radar for a while, it turns out he had Yellow Fever! The great news is he’s back and on the road to recovery.

We should probably also mention Paul who lives in Rio and the mystery listener who shows up on our download map somewhere in Central Brasil. Cheers people!
