Steve starts 108 with Joe Simon, Eastbound Expressway, Patti Labelle.

Joe Simon – Get Down, Get Down (Get On The Floor) Spring 1975.

I was absolutely amazed to find Joe Simon (Joe who? many will ask) scored a #1 US R&B hit in May ’75 with this largely forgotten track. Even more surprising is that he is one of the most successful R&B chart artists of all time, amassing more hits than many much better known singers and bands.

Eastbound Expressway – Never Let Go AVI Us/Pye UK 1978.

Produced by Ian Levine and remixed by Rick Giantos, this track was originally intended to be on a James Wells LP (he being another Ian Levine artist at the time), but time constraints didn’t allow. An underground disco hit, this has to be one of the most adventurous Levine productions ever.

Patti Labelle – Music Is My Way Of Life Epic UK/Us 1979.

With production credits going to Skip Scarborough this time around and remix duties taken care of by John Luongo, it’s no wonder this ended up sounding so good. It was lifted for 12” release from her LP ‘It’s Alright With Me’.
