Patti Austin was born in Harlem. She made her debut at the Apollo Theatre at age four and had her first recording contract with RCA when she was only five. Quincy Jones and Dinah Washington proclaimed themselves as her godparents. By the late 1960s she was a prolific session singer and commercial jingle singer. During the 1980s, she signed to Quincy’s Qwest Records. She charted twenty R&B songs between 1969 and 1991 and had success on the Hot Dance Music / Club Play Chart chart, where she had a number one with this track.
