Gabrielle ~ Dreams ~ Go Beat / London Records ~ 1993

Another request – this time for a young man who’s mum listens sometimes – she’s Glenda and he’s Jordan. Written by Gabrielle and Tim Laws and produced by Richie Fermie, “Dreams” reached number one on the UK singles chart for three weeks in June 1993, having entered the British charts at 2, which was the highest chart entry a debut act ever scored in the UK at that time. In the States the song peaked at 26 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was a number 1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.

Originally the song included a sample of the song Tracy Chapman’s Fast Car but the sample had to be removed because permission to use it wasn’t given – I think this is that version!

Chanté Moore ~ Free/Sail On ~ MCA ~ 1995

From 1995 on MCA, Chanté Moore originally from San Franciso from her “A Love Supreme” album – Deniece Williams song Free with a little bit of the Commodores Sail On thrown in for good measure.

The Chimes ~ I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For ~ CBS ~ 1994

Scottish band The Chimes made up of Pauline Henry, James Locke and Michael Peden with their beautiful cover of U2’s I still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For which originally appeared on their classic Joshua Tree album in 1987. Bono actually said that this version was the “only cover version he had heard that he enjoyed and did the original justice”, adding “at last someone’s come along to sing it properly”.
