Probably best known for ‘Disco Lady’, the first record in history to be awarded platinum status, I and other DJs in the UK had also known him for his early club favourite ‘Who’s Making Love’.

Holland Dozier ~ Why Can’t We Be Lovers ~ Invictus Records US/UK ~ 1972

Brian Holland and Lamont Dozier. Two-thirds of the legendary Motown writing and producing team HDH, who left the label in 1968 to start their own record label. The Trio were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990. #9 US R&B.

Atlanta Rhythm Section ~ So Into You ~ Polydor ~ 1976

A piece of ‘Blue-Eyed Soul’ from a rock band that formed in 1970 and have had a distinguished career that continues to this day, to the extent that a band of the name containing some of the original line-up, tends to be in demand to play at various festivals. Number 7 BB Hot 100.


Gwen McCrae ~ Rockin’ Chair ~ Cat Us/ President UK ~ 1975.

From the Sunshine State of Florida, George McCrae’s wife scored a US R&B number 1 with this Clarence Reid/ Willie Clarke song that featured her hubby on background vocals.

From their debut “Body Talk” album which, as well as the hit title track, also included “So Good, So Right” “In And Out Of Love”, and Flashback”. “Burnin’ Up” being cited as influential and ahead of their time (the latter has been acknowledged by Frankie Knuckles referenced Burnin’ Up as a key track in the development of house music. 68 US R&B
